A Medical Student from Germany, Mr. Max-Laurin Mueller visited the Medical AI Research and Development Center

Mr. Max-Laurin Mueller, a fourth-year medical student from University of Freiburg (Germany), visited Hokkaido University Hospital’s Medical AI Research and Development Center on March 6, 2024, as part of his overseas training program.

Mr. Mueller had a meeting with Associate Professor Kenji HIRATA at the AI Center, where he received an overview of the medical AI research and development infrastructure at Hokkaido University, as well as details about the Medical AI Research and Development Center and the Clinical AI Human Resources Development Program (CLAP).

With both having research experience in the United States, Mr. Mueller and Associate Professor Hirata discussed the current state of medical AI/DX in various countries, including Germany, the United States, and Japan, and the unique characteristics of each.

They also engaged in a passionate discussion about the future growth potential of medical AI, strategies for its implementation in society, and the importance of international cooperation.

In particular, insights into Germany’s government-led efforts in AI research were highlighted as valuable for deepening understanding of the future of AI and DX in the medical field, reaffirming the significance of international collaboration and information sharing.

Hokkaido University will continue to promote such exchanges to disseminate the current status of its medical AI research and development both domestically and internationally.
